KT News 09-09-2024/:- Eritrea mourns the loss of Osman Abdelrehim, a legendary musician whose impact on both the nation’s cultural identity and liberation struggle is immeasurable.
Born in 1948 in Massawa, Osman co-founded the Asmara Theatre Association and Rocket Band, blending Eritrean heritage with modern music.
His powerful voice and evocative performances resonated with the people, becoming a symbol of Eritrean resilience.
Throughout the 1970s, his collaborations with renowned artists and his work with the group "Embeba Hager" gave voice to nationalist ideals, artfully navigating censorship.
Joining the Eritrean Liberation Front in 1975, Osman’s music became a call to unity and freedom during the nation's struggle.
Even in exile, his influence endured. Osman’s legacy, carried on by his son Adem, continues to inspire Eritreans today. Though his passing marks a profound loss, his contributions to Eritrean music and identity will remain timeless.
May his soul rest in peace.
