KT News 02-09-2024/: Three protesters were reportedly killed while demonstrating against the murder of a two-year-old child who had been kidnapped in Gondar city.
According to Meseret Media, the child, Nolawit Zegeye, was abducted last Friday, August 30th.
Since then, money had been raised across the city, in streets and churches, in an attempt to secure her release. Tragically, the abductors brutally killed Nolawit despite the efforts to meet their demands.
It was reported that the family, residing in Gondar city’s Keble 03, was unable to raise the ransom money initially. Even after collecting contributions from the public, the abductors, angered by the delay, murdered the child in a heinous manner and left her body at the family’s doorstep.
Today, the child’s father brought her body to the town square around noon, where many residents joined him in protest. In response, security forces allegedly opened fire on the crowd, resulting in several injuries and fatalities.
A medical professional from the city, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed receiving eight gunshot victims at a local health facility, which had to double its beds to accommodate the injured.
