Ethiopia Bolsters Air and Ground Defense Amid Escalating Regional Tensions

KT News 04-09-2024/: The Ethiopian Air Force has significantly enhanced its protective measures over the eastern airspace, following heightened military activities by Egypt and Somalia in the region. This move comes as part of a broader strategy announced by the Federal Ministry of Defense, which has placed the Eastern Command on full military readiness.

The ministry, in a statement posted on its official Facebook page, emphasized that the Ethiopian Air Force is operating at an enhanced level of preparedness, particularly within the 3rd Air Division. The division, commanded by Colonel Derje Bushre, is on high alert and ready to fulfill its national duty.

Colonel Bushre emphasized that the 3rd Air Division is actively defending Ethiopia’s eastern airspace, asserting, "Our defense force is fully prepared to respond to any internal or external threats, and remains vigilant against anti-peace forces."

The Eastern Command, which oversees military operations in the region, has also ramped up its readiness. The Defense Minister affirmed that the forces are prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice in defending the nation, ensuring that any attempts to invade Ethiopia or carry out terrorist attacks will be met with a robust response.

This defensive posture follows reports of Egypt deploying approximately 1,000 commando troops and several armored vehicles to Somalia. Additionally, Egypt is expected to conduct joint military exercises with Somalia, involving ground, air, and naval forces, further intensifying regional security concerns.
